šŸ”„ You Don't Want To Miss This!

Hi Golfer,

Does the golf shaft really matter?

On this wonderful Thursday, weā€™re throwing it back to a lab we ran way back in 2016. Hereā€™s a snippet from the article.

So, does the shaft really matter?

Our results show that performance differences between iron shafts are undeniable.

  • In general, smoother swingers (picture Ernie Els), find less variation in shaft performance.

  • Aggressive swingers, with quicker tempos, will generally see greater performance variations between shafts.

  • While not reflected in the group averages, for the majority of our testers, there was one, sometimes two, shafts that offered significant performance benefit.

  • As a whole, the data suggests that, for most golfers, often significant differences do exist between shafts.

  • As always, we recommend getting properly fitted for your iron shafts

Enough of that. Letā€™s get to todayā€™s hot content, including an awesome take on a classic putter and another famous golfer starting a Youtube channel!

How Titleist Changed Golf in Just 90 Days

Never miss a fairway

No one, and I mean no one, could have known it at the time but an offhand lunchroom comment in 1995 would, five years later, completely change the game of golf in just 90 days.

Golf in the early 1990s wasnā€™t exactly hickory shafts and gutta perchas but it was a lot different than it is today. On the PGA Tour, you had golfers who looked more like Craig Stadler than Adam Scott, no launch monitors and guys with swings like Payne Stewartā€™s.

Golfers were still playing with what amounted to 70-year-old technology: the wound balata golf ball.

In 1994, Titleist introduced what proved to be a major innovation: the Titleist Professional, a wound ball with a new invention: a cast urethane cover.

Ultimately, this lead to the creation of the number on ball in golf, the Pro V1. Read on as we unveil the secrets that lead to itā€™s creation and the hardships Titleist faced as they took on this great challenge to flip the golf ball industry on its head.

Phil Mickelson Launched a Youtube Channel

Hereā€™s what it means.

Outside of Bryson DeChambeauā€™s meteoric rise in YouTube golf, we havenā€™t seen many notable pros get involved on the platform beyond guest appearances.

Now it looks like a legendary golfer is getting in the mix.

Phil Mickelsonā€”six-time major champion and a lightning rod for controversy surrounding LIV Golfā€”announced a challenge series with Grant Horvat, the rising YouTube golf star. The two are going to play as a team against a variety of competition starting this January. The announcement came in the form of a Step Brothers-inspired video released on Instagram last week after Horvat had been teasing ā€œthe biggest announcement of his careerā€ leading up to that.
