The gutting news from the weekend is that 30-year-old PGA Tour player, Grayson Murray has died, apparently by suicide, one day after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge.

More Popular than You Think

Do you know what the second most popular U.S. shoe brand is?

If you said Skechers, you’re either lying or made a really good guess. But the truth is the truth. Outside of NIKE, Skechers is the best-selling casual shoe brand in the United States.

Why then, when looking for a new pair of golf shoes, is the brand with the giant “S” logo often an afterthought?

If Skechers could fix the stigma that they aren’t cool or hip, I think they’d be even bigger

That’s much easier said than done.

Until then (if they ever get there), they’ll continue to make underappreciated, great-performing products that consumers should pay attention to.

Volvik Condor Golf Balls

More than What You Think

You probably know Volvik as a brand that makes brightly colored matte balls, or perhaps brightly colored matte balls with Marvel characters on them.

That’s true, but Volvik is working to reestablish itself as a serious player in the Tour ball category. The new Condor is unlike anything you’ve seen from Volvik before.

We are looking for nine golfers to test, review and keep two dozen golf balls from Volvik’s lineup. We will select three golfers each to test the Condor X, Condor and XT Soft golf balls.

I’m struggling a little bit with my driver this season and that got me thinking about mini drivers.

Right now, TaylorMade is the only large equipment maker to offer a mini, but Titleist has a tour-only prototype, and there are rumors that another brand will be launching its version of a mini in the near future.

I might make the switch (at least until I sort things out), but what about you?

A Golf Coach in Your Pocket?

Core Golf is a practice app with video drills and the ability to track your progress.

Core Golf’s boldest claim is that “it’s like having a golf coach in your pocket.” Broadly speaking, it is, without the logistical and safety implications of having a tiny, squishy human stuffed into your clothes.

I mean, how many times have you accidentally sat on your phone? All you have to decide is if the app is better for you than an actual coach.
