šŸ”„ THIS Hot Collab Won't Last

Get it while you can

Hi Golfer,

The golf equipment industry has changed post-COVID. It used to be that February to August was basically a dead zone for new releases, but not anymore.

Now, barely a week goes by without something new. Yesterday we gave you your first peak at the new Titleist GT driver lineup. Today weā€™ve got a new utility iron from Wilson, and frankly, I expect the releases will continue to trickle all year long until the damn bursts wide open again in January.

And thatā€™s before we start talking about apparel releases (this TaylorMade Collab, for example).

Has there ever been a better time to be a golf gearhead?

Wilson Staff Model RB Utility Iron

Wilson Continues its Resurgence

The new Wilson Staff Model RB Utility irons officially put a bow on Wilsonā€™s impressive first half of 2024.

Yes, we said impressive.

Wilson seeks to continue the momentum with the new Staff Model RB Utility Iron.

Need to hit a fairway on a short and narrow par-4? Reach for your utility iron. A long par-3 where precision is key? Grab it again. How about a long, low punch-out? There are three utilities right there.

And if youā€™re the kind of player who tends to hook most hybrids off the continent (columnist sheepishly raises hand), you can further utilize the utilityā€™s utility.

Oh, and they sure are pretty.

Unwritten Practice Range Etiquette Rules

Donā€™t Be That Guy

While some of the standards have evolved over the years, golf remains a game of etiquette.

That doesnā€™t mean it has to be stuffy or uptight. The etiquette portion, for the most part, refers to the common courtesy of other golfers and the course itself. They are the things you do to ensure the game moves quickly and safely while adequately respecting those around you.

We tend to think of etiquette as how you conduct yourself on the course, but it extends beyond that. There is etiquette throughout any facility, including the practice range.

Some parts of practice etiquette are unique to being on a driving rangeā€”or more heightened on a rangeā€”so I put together a list of unwritten practice range etiquette rules.

PING S159 Custom Program

Wedges Your Way

I know the look of your gear (probably) doesnā€™t change how you play but it does change your mental state when you look at it.

I love custom golf clubs. There is a bit of a dopamine hit when I pull the custom putter or wedge out of the bag while thinking, ā€œMan, that looks cool.ā€

That little pop of pleasure pushes my mind into a more positive place when I approach an intimidatingly long putt or tight lie. Whoā€™s to say this attitude adjustment doesnā€™t help me play better as well?

Some of you donā€™t get the appeal of customizing golf clubs. Thatā€™s fine. Iā€™m sure there are lots of things other people love that I donā€™t see the appeal of, either. How great is it that we all get to like what we like?

Anyway, on todayā€™s customization docket, we have PINGā€™s new s159 custom wedge design program. This will be my second time building custom PING wedges.

Letā€™s see what this new PING s159 customizer is all about.

Try This Instead

ā€™One of my favorite sayings is, ā€œLook good, feel good, play good.ā€

Editorā€™s note: Technically, ā€œplay wellā€ would be grammatically correct, but I'ma let Connor do his thing.

I suppose this is the rationale I use to convince my wife that I need a new golf outfit. The same rationale applies to you, too.

I want nothing more than for you to play good golf and look great doing it.

Not sure where to start?

Iā€™ve curated a list and broken them down by price point. Whether youā€™re a big spender or a penny-pincher, Iā€™ve got an outfit that fits the bill.

šŸŒļø TUESDAY TOUR TALK

One Year Later, ā€œThe Mergerā€ is Nowhere

This Thursday marks one year since the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabiaā€™s Public Investment Fund entered into a framework agreement that stunned the golf world.

It was a jarring development that blindsided most of golfā€™s key stakeholders. The sight of Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan sitting next to PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan during a TV hit for CNBC felt like a fever dream.

Immediately, grand conclusions and rash generalizations were being madeā€”and justifiably so given that a partnership between these bitter rivals seemed inconceivable.

ā€œThe Saudis own professional golf now,ā€ thousands of people wrote on social media.

The framework agreement, which was erroneously touted as a ā€œmergerā€ during the initial rollout, promised a reunification of the professional game. LIV Golf, which is bankrolled by the PIF, would either dissolve into the Tour or find a way to peacefully coexist with the Tour.

One year later, the framework agreement looks utterly meaningless.

Other than the halt of a court battleā€”neither side was interested in the discovery process, and the Tour didnā€™t want to be drowned in legal feesā€”nothing tangible has been accomplished.

Multiple deadlines have been kicked into a nebulous future. The so-called cease-fire apparently didnā€™t include Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton leaving for LIV. The Tour turned to private equity firm Strategic Sports Group for a $3 billion investment to give players equity, which complicated logistics for a deal. Jimmy Dunne, a critical architect of the framework agreement, resigned from the Tour board due to frustration over the lack of negotiating progress.

Common sense screams that professional golf canā€™t move forward in its current state. TV ratings are mediocre at best. The Tourā€™s product is watered down. LIV canā€™t draw any reasonable audience at all.

But common sense has been losing, 9 and 8, on repeat.

Until it comes back, we are all left waiting for something real to happen.

TaylorMade x Kith

The Coolest Collab in Golf?

ā€™Everyone has a favorite power couple. Youā€™ve got Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Beyonce and Jay-Z.

TaylorMade and Ronnie Fiegā€™s Kith.

Two years ago, I sat at my computer furiously scrolling through Kithā€™s website in an attempt to buy anything and everything from the new Kith for TaylorMade collab.

I ended up scoring a set of pins and a sweet hat that I still rock today.

Fast-forward to now. The two are once again blurring the ever-fading line between streetwear and golf to bring us a new Kith for TaylorMade collection.
