⛳ Don't Make THESE Mistakes

Get it right the first time

Hi Golfer,

What do Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm have in common?

Quite a bit, it turns out (thanks, Captain Obvious).

They’re both professional golfers who play on the LIV Tour.
Phil’s brother Tim coached Rahm in college and served as his agent.
And just like Phil, Jon Rahm is no longer listed on Callaway Golf’s website as a member of the company’s PGA Tour Staff (there’s no separate LIV page).

A site search for “Rahm” returns a 404 error.

GOLFER. NOT. FOUND.

Maybe Callaway’s LIV page isn’t ready yet, but Rahm’s removal suggests the two have parted ways (at some point, we’ll probably get an official non-explanation). The early speculation (and it’s only that) is that it might have something to do with Rahm’s Travis Mathew deal (Travis Mathew is a Callaway sister brand under the larger Topgolf Callaway Brands umbrella).

LIV being what it is, you gotta wear the uni (even when you’re under contract with someone else). Is it as simple as you can’t be Team Travis when you’re the captain of Legion XIII (Thundercats, Ho!) or is there more to the story?

Specifics aside, with influence models shifting away from the professional game, it’s reasonable to wonder how much ROI equipment brands are really getting for the money spent on Tour ambassadors.

The sport is fractured, LIV gets nearly no TV time, and the PGA TOUR’s ratings are in a tailspin. For established brands with a reserve of credibility in the tank, does it still make sense to pay big money for a pro to sport your logo?

Could that money be better spent elsewhere?

It’s worth thinking about, and I’d wager golf’s biggest brands are doing just that.

Reimagining Golf Instruction

Built for the Student

The industry has been built for golf coaches to be able to lean up against a pole and do their nine hours of golf coaching in the one location where everyone goes to them,” said Baden Schaff, Skillest co-founder and director of instruction.

It’s convenient for the instructors, but the model isn’t really built for the student (that’s you).

What is built for the student is a highly-customized instructional experience. According to Skillest, that’s exactly what they’ve created.

Team Golf Needs a Bigger Place in the Game

It seems so obvious that team golf should be a major fixture in golf’s landscape.

And yet, it’s been difficult to execute.

So what should team golf look like in the game? It’s a daunting question.
