Happy Friday Golfer,

We’re wrapping up what has to be among the best weeks ever for the PGA Tour members who stayed loyal to the Tour. According to reports, Tiger will get a $100 million equity payment, while Rory will only get $50 million out of the gate.

Algorithms being what they are, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are both reportedly set to take in a cool $30 million each.

It ain’t LIV money, but it’s good money.

But who is paying for this?

Yeah, I know about the investment from the Strategic Sports Group, but those guys aren’t running a charity for aggrieved golfers; they’re going to want a return, and you don’t get that by making it rain like it’s Friday night at Rachel’s during PGA Show week.

Glass half-full; maybe the new owners (the players) will do everything they can to get the most of their equity. That means being more accessible, growing the game … all that sort of stuff.

Call me a cynic, but I suspect what it really means is higher ticket and merch costs, more commercials, and a generally worse fan experience.

These are the lessons learned from every other sport.

Fortunately, none of us need the pro game to enjoy our time on the course.
