And with that, Lexi Thompson, 29, announced her retirement from professional golf after 18-years on Tour. She was, for my money, the best American golfer of her generation.

The news comes as a surprise considering her age, but Lexi certainly isn’t the first to walk away in her prime. You may recall that Lorena Ochoa was only 28 when she retired.

The between-the-lines read is that after grinding it out on the road since she was a teenager, Lexi wants to lead a normal life for a while, though she left the door open to playing from time to time.
