🏆 The 10 BEST

We rank major championship finishes

Hi Golfer,

I don’t have a lot to say today except that you absolutely have to check out today’s Throwback Thursday section.

It’s seriously one of my favorite things ever.

If that doesn’t do it for you, we rank the best major finishes since 2000, take a deep dive into the most technologically advanced iron category, and because you really should be wearing sunglasses on the course, we review one of the most sneaky good brands on the market right now.

The 10 Best Major Finishes Since 2000

The definition of clutch

This past Sunday at the U.S. Open was an instant classic.

All the ingredients were there for a memorable finish. Two star players, competing on a historic layout, went down to the wire with a major championship on the line.

Adding in the context of Bryson DeChambeau’s renaissance, Rory McIlroy’s major drought and the ongoing schism in professional golf, the entertainment value surpassed most majors in recent memory.

That got us thinking about how this past major Sunday compares to others.

This is highly subjective but I used the following criteria to identify the top 10 major finishes since 2000:

The Evolution of Player’s Distance Irons

Filling the gap

If you like to think that innovation in golf equipment is dead and all this technology OEMs tout is just marketing BS, the player’s distance iron category would like a word.

Player’s distance irons have only really been a thing since 2018. It used to be that if you wanted distance and forgiveness in an iron, you had the game-improvement category. If you wanted precision and workability, you had the player’s iron category of forged blades and cavity-backs.

That left a rather sizable gap in between and if there’s one thing that nature (not to mention industry) hates, it’s a gap.

The evolution of player’s distance irons doesn’t follow the strict tenets of Darwinism but it is a fascinating study. Seven years ago, it simply didn’t exist outside of a few misfit clubs erroneously categorized as game improvement. But thanks to advances in design technology and manufacturing capabilities, the player’s distance iron is arguably the most tech-driven equipment category in the game.

And one of the leaders in that category might surprise you.

📆 Throwback Thursday - “Getchya Some”

Given Bryson’s win at Pinehurst, I thought it fitting that today’s throwback should feature a reel our Social Media Manager, Bennett, put together following a COBRA event for the launch of the LTDX family of metalwoods and irons.

The backstory here is that Bryson was having a rough day. Grinding away at the far end of the range, things weren’t coming together.

We can all relate.

But when the main event started, swinging out of his shoes alongside Kyle Berkshire with AC/DC blasting on the range, our boy positively came to life.

This remains my favorite MGS reel.

P.S. On a totally unrelated note, I kinda like his shirt.
